Andrew C. Corbin brings 34 years of experience in health insurance sales and management to the position of president/CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas. He became just the seventh top executive in the company's 66-year history Oct. 1, 2007.
Corbin was promoted to the company's top leadership role after six years as a vice president. He most recently served as vice president of external sales and provider affairs, while also leading two of the company's subsidiaries: Advance Insurance Company of Kansas, a life and disability insurance company, and Premier Health, Inc., a health maintenance organization.
When he joined BCBSKS as director of sales in 1987, Corbin already had 13 years of sales and management experience with other health insurers. After a brief stint as a teacher and coach, he served six years as sales manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City. He later served five years as district sales director for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and two years as director of marketing for Humana Insurance Co.
Corbin was promoted to vice president in 2001, leading the company's marketing, provider relations and reimbursement division.
In addition to his role as president/CEO of BCBSKS, Corbin serves in leadership positions for the company’s various subsidiaries. He is chairman of Premier Health, Inc.; Advance Insurance Company of Kansas; and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation.
He also represents BCBSKS on the boards of several national organizations. He is a member of the board of directors for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, TriWest Healthcare Alliance and Prime Therapeutics LLC. In addition to serving on the board for BCBSA, Corbin also sits on two of the Association’s standing committees: the Federal Employee Program (FEP) Board of Managers and the National Employee Benefit Committee. He also serves on the executive committee for TriWest and the human resources subcommittee for Prime.
Closer to home, Corbin serves on the board of directors for the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Kansas Insurance Education Foundation, and the United Way of Greater Topeka. He has served as a board member for March of Dimes and the Sunflower Soccer Association, and is a long-time member of Sales & Marketing Executives of Topeka. He also has been involved with the American Heart Association, Boy Scouts of America and Christmas in April.
Corbin is a native of Alva, OK, but has spent the majority of his life in Kansas. He was raised in Liberal and graduated from Wichita State University in 1972 with a bachelor's in education. He and his wife, Robin, have four adult children and three grandchildren.
