A vice president since 2004, Shelley Pittman oversees the employees most responsible for providing superior service to members on a daily basis. As the company's chief operating officer and vice president of operations and internal sales, she oversees the customer service and membership departments. In February 2013, she added leadership for the individual and small group sales departments to her duties.
Pittman brings nearly 40 years of experience at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas to her position. She joined the company in 1972 as a file clerk in the Medicaid area, and gained further experience as a claims processor and customer service representative. Her first supervisory position was in the telecommunications unit in customer service.
She made the move to sales in 1981, beginning with HMO Kansas. Pittman later became a senior group consultant selling to large groups and was the company's top selling rep for six of her seven years. She was promoted to director of internal sales, overseeing small group and individual sales, and held that position for 14 years before being named vice president of internal sales and member relations in 2004. Within two years she developed a World Class customer service center. The BSBSKS customer service center maintains that designation to this day.
