OxyContin is a controlled-release tablet for the management of moderate to severe pain when a continuous, around-the-clock analgesic is needed for an extended period of time. OxyContin is not intended for use on a prn basis. OxyContin has been associated with numerous reports of diversion and abuse, some resulting in death. The recommended dosing is one tablet every twelve hours, thus the quantity limit is sixty tablets in a thirty-day period. The limit will apply to each drug strength. Therefore, a patient can receive sixty tablets per month of multiple strengths to allow for special dosing needs.
