How to Recognize an International Blue Plan Member

Occasionally, you may see identification (ID) cards from Blue members from a foreign country.  These ID cards will also contain three-character alpha prefixes.  Please treat Blue international members the same as domestic Blue Plan members.
The steps that you follow for domestic Blue Plan members are the same steps that you should follow for foreign Blue Plan members:

  1. Verify eligibility and benefits via the BCBSKS Web site or by sending a batch electronic eligibility transaction or calling the BlueCard Eligibility® lineat 1.800.676.BLUE (2573) and providing the three-character alpha prefix.
  2. All claims should be filed to BCBSKS.  Provider claim inquiries should also be directed to BCBSKS.
  3. Please follow the same payment collection practice as you do for the domestic member which includes collecting up front for non-covered services.  These members may not have coverage for non-emergency outpatient or physician services.  In these instances you should collect payment for non-covered services only from the members.

If you have any questions, contact BCBSKS at 1-800-432-3990.

Benefit or eligibility information can be obtained via the BCBSKS web site www.bcbsks.com or by calling 1-800-676-2573.
