Effective April 1, 2010 – Easier Access to Pre-Certification/Pre-Authorization Information for Out-of-Area Blue Members We are pleased to announce enhancements to the BlueCard Eligibility® Line. These changes will improve your experience in verifying eligibility and obtaining precertification/pre-authorization information for your out-of-area Blue patients. Please note the changes as follows. If calling 1-800-676-BLUE (2583) to obtain precertification/pre-authorization only: Effective April 1, 2010, when precertifications/pre-authorizations for a specific member are handled separately from eligibility verifications, your call will be routed directly to the area that handles precertifications/pre-authorizations. You will choose from four options regarding the type of service for which you are calling:
Upon making your selection, you will be transferred to the appropriate area of the member's Plan to service your specific request. If calling 1-800-676-BLUE (2583) to obtain eligibility only or if you need both eligibility and precertification/pre-authorization: Your call will be handled like it is today. You will select the option to obtain eligibility and precertification/pre-authorization information. First, your eligibility inquiry will be addressed. Then you will be transferred, as appropriate, to the precertification/pre-authorization area. If you have any questions about the BlueCard Eligibility line (1.800.676.BLUE), please call your provider consultant.
