Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Testing HIPAA 5010
As part of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas due diligence in implementing the federally mandated Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) 5010, we would like to partner with our providers to test the new version of the standards. By working together now, we will be able to ensure all our systems and processes are ready for the January 1, 2012, mandate.
Active Trading Partners will not have to complete enrollment forms as a result of HIPAA 5010. An active trading partner (one that has submitted claims within the past 12 months) will automatically be set up for HIPAA 5010.
A vendor may decide to do testing on behalf of their clients. Vendors will determine if clients are set up for test or production status. Trading partners must check with their vendor for specifics on testing. Testing Guidelines are available on the ASK and BCBSKS websites.
Once HIPAA 5010 set up is completed a confirmation email will be generated to the email address on the trading partner file. ASK will rely on email as the primary means to contact trading partners. If there is no email address on file with ASK the confirmation will be mailed.
New contact and email address information may be emailed to askedi@bcbsks.com, if the email address contains the name of the organization.
New contact information may be faxed to ASK on company letterhead. Faxes may be sent to 785-290-0720.
Please include your 7 digit trading partner number on all requests.
Refer to the HIPAA 5010 BCBSKS Timelines for information regarding testing and production dates for ASK supported payers.
Trading partners using PC-ACE Pro32 software will not need to test with ASK.
PC-ACE Pro32 users should watch for email notification regarding updates that will enable software to produce the HIPAA 5010 format.
