Automatic Crossovers from Medicare for Mass Adjustments

On July 14, 2011 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) sent out a newsletter (BC-11-08) to all contracting providers which stated that effective July 15, 2011, we will no longer accept (nor will other Blue Plans) automatic crossovers for Medicare mass adjustment.

The newsletter cited above also stated that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas will continue to receive and process mass adjustments for the Federal Employee Program (FEP).  However, recently, the FEP Director’s office at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association indicated that Plans are allowed to handle the automatic crossovers for Medicare mass adjustments for FEP business the same as they are handling their local business.  Therefore, effective August 4, 2011 BCBSKS began to no longer accept automatic crossovers for Medicare mass adjustments for FEP claims.  If providers want to have any of their remaining Medicare crossover claims for their FEP line of business adjusted after August 4 or in the future when Medicare mass adjustments occur, they will need to submit the claim for the adjustment through the standard claim filing process.
