Secondary Claims Processing Changes

In the past, BCBSKS was able to process secondary payments solely based on receiving an explanation of benefits (EOB) or Medicare summary notice (MSN).  Some EOBs/MSNs that we receive do not have the capability for displaying the national provider identifier (NPI). To ensure the claim is processed correctly, it is important that the provider's NPI number is available.

Therefore, effective immediately, all Blue Cross secondary paper claims need to include a copy of the original claim as well as a copy of the primary insurance EOBs/MSNs.  If both the claim and EOB/MSN are not submitted, the claim will be returned to provider as unprocessible
