Does HIP replace my current health coverage?
No. HIP works alongside your current coverage to make the most of your financial situation. You can use the cash benefit for anything you need, whether it's transportation for your family and friends, lodging, meal expenses or any personal items. It's totally up to you.
What is considered an "accident," when HIP pays from Day 1?
Accidental injury means an injury to your body caused solely through an external force. It does not include disease, infection or hernias, for instance.
Do I need to answer health questions or receive a physical exam to qualify for HIP coverage?
No. You're automatically eligible for this coverage. And there are NO health questions to answer – your coverage is guaranteed!
When do HIP benefits start?
After a claim is filed, HIP benefits start on Day 4 following admission to an acute care section of a licensed general hospital. If your admission is due to an eligible accident, your benefits start on Day 1.
Is there a waiting period for pre-existing conditions?
There is a standard waiting period within the Hospital Indemnity Plan. If you seek or receive diagnosis, treatment or advice about a condition in the 90 days prior to the date your coverage begins (your effective date), the waiting period will be 365 days before that pre-existing condition is covered.
Does HIP cover my stay in a skilled nursing facility or in a nursing home?
HIP was designed to cover hospital admissions and does not cover admissions to skilled nursing facilities or to any type of nursing home or any portion of a hospital admission that is primarily for skilled nursing care rather than acute care.
Is there a limit on how many days this plan will cover?
You can receive benefits for medically necessary services for up to 365 days from the date benefits start.
Do I have to use the money on medically related expenses?
No. Use your cash benefit any way you choose.
How do I file a claim after I'm enrolled?
It's simple. Just ask your hospital for an itemized statement of your stay and submit it with your HIP claim form. You'll begin receiving your cash benefits immediately.
