Three Health Associations Benefit When Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Members Sign Up for Online Service
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is asking its members to help the company stay cost-effective while at the same time highlighting programs that help members manage their chronic health conditions. During 2007, for every member who newly signs up to receive their Summary of Claims Processed (SOCP) form online rather than in the mail, the company will donate $1 to either the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
When members sign up for this service, they agree to not receive the paper version of their SOCP in the mail – saving the cost of printing and postage – in favor of viewing their claims information in the secured section of this site. A replica of the paper version of the SOCP is available for a member to view online.
“We’ve run a similar campaign the past several years and have had thousands of members sign up,” explained Graham Bailey, vice president of corporate communications and public relations. “That clearly illustrates to us that our members are interested in helping us keep our administrative costs low by saving money on printing and postage. An added bonus to members who sign up for this service is that they receive their information sooner since an e-mail is sent as soon as their claims have been processed.”
This year, BCBSKS decided to support three organizations that are linked to care management programs the company offers its members with chronic conditions. The Healthy Options care management programs provide education, tools and one-on-one support to eligible members who have asthma, diabetes, congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease. The doctor-directed, nurse-managed program is free to members, and includes quarterly mailings with educational information, and periodic telephone calls during which a nurse care manager can offer information and encouragement.
“It is important that our members know that if they suffer from asthma, diabetes or heart disease, we have programs in place to help them manage their chronic condition,” Bailey said. “By signing up this year to receive their SOCPs online, members can help support three nationally renowned organizations that are working to battle chronic conditions that debilitate many Kansans every year.”
Members who are interested in learning more about how to receive their claims information online should log in to the Secured Services section. Members who have never set up a user name and received a password can find out how to get started.
