Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation Donates $25,000 to United Way's Greensburg Disaster Fund
Citing a need to assist fellow Kansans with their basic needs after last Friday's devastating tornado in Greensburg, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation is contributing $25,000 to the United Way's Greensburg Disaster Fund.
"Last week's disaster provides all Kansans an opportunity to step forward and lend a hand to the individuals and businesses who suffered such tremendous loss," said Michael M. Mattox, chairman of the BCBSKS Foundation's board of directors. "Unless you have been in Greensburg in the past few days, or have lived through a similar situation, it is difficult to comprehend the widespread destruction and loss that 1,600 fellow Kansans have experienced.
"The resolve that the residents of Greensburg are exhibiting – a commitment to rebuilding their lives and their town – is commendable," he said.
Mattox said that there are many deserving funds that have been set up and encourages businesses and individuals to make contributions to the fund of their choice. The United Way Greensburg Disaster Fund is being managed by United Way of the Plains in Wichita.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. BCBSKS is the state's largest health insurer, serving all Kansas counties except Johnson and Wyandotte.
