Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Receives 2008 Northeast Kansas Business Ethics Award

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, the state's largest health insurer serving nearly 900,000 Kansans, has been recognized for its long tradition of ethical business practices by receiving the 2008 Northeast Kansas Business Ethics Award, presented by the Northeast Kansas Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, in conjunction with the Washburn University School of Business and the Washburn Small Business Development Center.

"This award is a tremendous honor for our company and each individual employee who strives everyday to uphold our Code of Conduct while serving our members," said Andrew C. Corbin, BCBSKS president/CEO. "I was pleased to share with the selection committee that our Code of Conduct is more than words in a document. I was proud to tell them that our employees put the code into action each and every day by protecting the privacy of our members, creating processes which assure we accurately pay claims, developing and marketing health benefit products which meet their needs, and providing World Class customer service, to name just a few."

BCBSKS, which won the award in the medium-sized company category, is now entered into the American Business Ethics Award (ABEA) competition, sponsored by the Society of Financial Service Professionals (SFSP).

The ABEA recognizes U.S. companies that exemplify high standards of ethical behavior in their everyday business conduct and in response to specific crises or challenges. Established in 1994 by the SFSP this award program continues to gain prestige and stature.

The entries for the ABEA are judged by distinguished, independent panelists who represent the business, academic, public service, media and consulting communities. The judges evaluate the companies on documented evidence of the integrity of their corporate "code of ethics," as well as on a clear demonstration of the company's commitment to ethical business practices through management and employee behavior. The judging criteria are stringent, and the result is an award that is as coveted as it is difficult to achieve.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. BCBSKS is the state's largest health insurer, serving all Kansas counties except Johnson and Wyandotte.
