Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Donates $15,000 to the United Way Tornado Relief Fund

In an effort to assist fellow Kansans in Chapman, Manhattan and surrounding areas recover from tornados that destroyed or damaged homes and businesses June 11, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas has made a $15,000 corporate donation to the United Way Tornado Relief Fund.

"Natural disasters such as the tornados that hit northeast Kansas June 11 require the services of many organizations to help in relief and recovery efforts, and we are pleased to help fund those efforts," said Andrew C. Corbin, BCBSKS president/CEO. "The Tornado Relief Fund will support many services, including counseling, housing, vouchers for rent or utility assistance, and many more."

Corbin encourages other businesses and individuals wishing to help in long-term recovery efforts to contribute to the United Way Tornado Relief Fund.

The fund is administered by United Way of the Plains, Wichita, with 100 percent of each gift going to disaster recovery assistance. In the days after the tornados hit, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius asked United Ways of Kansas to administer a fund to serve as a central collection point for anyone wishing to make a monetary donation to help victims.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. BCBSKS is the state's largest health insurer, serving all Kansas counties except Johnson and Wyandotte.
