Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Employees, Foundation Give $252,828 to United Way Campaigns Across the State

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas employees and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation donated a total of $252,828.05 this fall to United Way campaigns in Topeka, Salina, Wichita and Hutchinson.

“We believe that part of being a good corporate citizen is making sure employees have the opportunity to positively affect the well-being of the cities and neighborhoods they live and work in,” said Andrew C. Corbin, president/CEO of BCBSKS and of the BCBSKS Foundation. “By supporting the United Way our employees can help bring hope to children and families who need assistance. We thank United Way leaders for creating the vision to move our communities forward.”

In Topeka, where 1,388 employees work, Corbin presented the United Way of Greater Topeka with a check in the amount of $229,415.89. The check represents an employee contribution of $174,945.89 and $4,470 from retirees, as well as a $50,000 donation from the BCBSKS Foundation. The Foundation increased it’s donation in 2013 by $15,000.

In Salina, home to 46 BCBSKS employees, donations totaling $6,312.56 have been made to the Salina Area United Way by employees and the Foundation. In Wichita, where the company has 34 people, $15,899.60 has been donated by employees and the Foundation in support of the United Way of the Plains’ annual campaign drive. Eight employees in the Hutchinson office raised $1,200 for the United Way of Reno County.
