Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas to allow members with non-grandfathered benefits to keep existing health care plan
Nov. 19, 2013
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas plans to offer its members the opportunity to extend for one year the individual and small group benefit plans that were previously deemed ineligible for renewal because of the new requirements of the Affordable Care Act. This governmental change will allow many of our members to keep the benefit plan they already have and like, while still allowing them to consider new plans that they may be able to purchase with the help of a tax subsidy or small business tax credit.
We will soon send a letter directly to approximately 10,000 individual policyholders affected by this change to explain their options and steps that we'll follow to renew their plan. We also will be in touch with our small business owners who have upcoming renewal dates to share this new information with them and review their options.
We are pleased to be able to offer this choice to our members. For more than 70 years, we have offered Kansans in the 103 counties that we serve a variety of comprehensive, quality benefit plans so they may pick one that best suits their needs. We want to ensure that the health insurance plans our members purchase work for them and their families, providing them access to the best possible health care and the security they have come to expect from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.
