What We're Doing - Legislative Activities
We traditionally oppose mandated benefits because they increase the cost of insurance for everyone, not just those who would directly benefit from the coverage. Because history shows mandates increase costs for everyone, we ask state and federal lawmakers to “first do no harm” when they consider new legislation.
We feel strongly that the competition of the marketplace should determine new benefits. Consumers purchasing their own coverage or the employer developing a program for his or her employees should collectively decide what they want to have covered.
Through the Grassroots Network, we keep Kansas business owners informed as to what legislation is being considered at the state and federal levels. A periodic newsletter provides updates and encourages business owners to share their opinions with their elected representatives. Employers often testify in Topeka regarding the impact that mandates would have on their ability to provide health insurance to their employees.
