BCBSKS proudly contributes award-winning dedication to corporate giving and in-kind services, as well as encouragement and support of employee community service throughout Kansas.
A large number of our employees serve in leadership roles on community boards and volunteer for a wide array of organizations. We have provided educational campaigns to inform Kansans of ways to stay healthier and use health care wisely. And in partnership with other corporate citizens and community organizations, we have supported initiatives addressing domestic violence awareness and prevention, early childhood development, and other topics of importance to the well-being of Kansans.
To further promote good health in Kansas, we incorporated the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation with a $2 million gift. The foundation seeks to fund organizations with non-profit 501(c)(3) status to support health-related programs and activities. In August 2006 we announced the first major grant program, providing a total of $25,000 in grants to help school nurses promote healthy lifestyles to their students. Called Healthy Habits for Life, this program will seek out initiatives designed to help Kansas youth reduce their cardiovascular risk, increase their physical activity or learn healthy eating habits.
