Take Steps to a Healthier Life April 24 as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Presents National Walk @ Lunch Day®

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas hosting events in 11 communities

Taking steps to a healthier you could be as easy as adding a 30-minute brisk walk to your daily routine. That is why Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, the state's largest health insurer, is encouraging Kansans to get up and on their feet to take a walk April 24 as part of National Walk @ Lunch Day.

The 13th annual National Walk @ Lunch Day is designed to encourage people to take a walk during their lunch break – or any time during the day – to start a healthy routine. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is hosting walking events in 11 communities April 24; all walks begin at noon. BCBSKS-led walks will take place in Dodge City, Garden City, Hays, Hutchinson, Independence, Lawrence, Manhattan, Pittsburg, Salina, Topeka and Wichita.

People are encouraged to join the walk nearest them or plan a group walking event in their community or at their workplace.

In addition to being a positive influence on some chronic conditions, walking briskly for 30 minutes most days of the week can help control weight, reduce stress, lower blood pressure and improve muscle tone.

All BCBSKS-led National Walk @ Lunch Day events will happen rain or shine, and will begin at noon April 24 with a short rally followed by a 30-minute walk. A limited number of free T-shirts are available for participants at each location. Events will take place in:

  • Dodge City – Dome Activity Center, Dodge City Community College, 3004 N. 14th; walk route is the center's indoor track (T-shirts for the first 100 participants).
  • Garden City – St. Catherine Hospital, Spruce Street; walk route is around the hospital's campus (100 shirts).
