Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is hosting the BCBS Annual Workshop, a virtual workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. October 17, 2023. This workshop will take place through Teams.

During this interactive session we will be joined by three outstanding presenters. Bevan Erickson, AAPC’s CEO, to provide how new innovations will impact your daily life, both inside and outside of work. Tracy Bird, Medical Practice Management Consultant, session will review the E&M documentation guidelines and include discussion of areas that cause confusion for providers and staff. Dr. Synovec, president of Topeka Pathology Group, LLC, and medical director of Stormont-Vail Healthcare Laboratories, has a long history of laboratory CPT involvement beginning as the past American Medical Association (AMA’s) CPT Advisor.

About the Speakers

Bevan Erickson   
Mr. Bevan Erickson is currently serving as the CEO of AAPC, having joined the now 200,000-member healthcare organization in 2007. Prior to AAPC, Erickson spent a decade in the tech industry where he excelled in startup- and growth-stage businesses. His expertise surrounds marketing, product development, and operations, with a passion for communities and platforms. He was raised in Northern California, met his incredibly gorgeous wife in Alaska, was educated at Brigham Young University, and is now raising four rambunctious boys on a small lake in the mountains of Northern Utah. He enjoys family, church, water sports, cycling, traveling, and work – in that order.

Tracy Bird, FACMPE, CPC, CPMA, CEMC, CPC-I    
Tracy has many years healthcare management experience in multiple specialties in the areas of practice operations, revenue cycle management, coding, documentation, staff training, communications, policy and procedure development, and workflow redesign. Her experience includes work with private practices, hospital-based practices, rural health clinics, and FQHC’s She is an ACMPE Fellow with MGMA, a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), a Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CMPA), a Certified Evaluation and Management Auditor (CEMC) a Certified Professional Medical Coding Curriculum instructor (CPC-I). Tracy is co-founder and past president of the NE Kansas Chapter of AAPC, a past president of MGMA-GKC, is the ACMPE Forum Rep for Kansas, and Kansas City, and previously served on the Certification Commission for National MGMA. Tracy is also an independent practice management consultant with national MGMA. Tracy presents to many healthcare organizations on a variety of practice management topics as well as being a National speaker for MGMA and AAPC.

Dr. Mark Synovec, MD    
Dr. Synovec is president of Topeka Pathology Group, LLC, a seven-person independent, multi-hospital-based pathology group, and medical director of Stormont-Vail Healthcare Laboratories. He has a long history of laboratory CPT involvement beginning as the past American Medical Association (AMA’s) CPT Advisor representing the American Society of Clinical Pathology in 1995; he is a past chair of the AMA CPT Pathology Coding Caucus. Dr. Synovec was appointed to serve on the AMA CPT Editorial Panel in June 2007 and the AMA CPT Editorial Panel Executive Committee in June of 2011. He was appointed Vice-Chair of the CPT Editorial Panel and Chair of the CPT® Assistant Editorial Board in June of 2015.  He completed his 4-year appointment as the CPT Editorial Panel Chair in January 2023. He has previously served as co-chair of the CPT Molecular Pathology Advisory Committee (MPAG). Dr. Synovec also serves the AMA as the Pathology Section Council Chair to the House of Delegates, being a Delegate for the College of American Pathologists.
