Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas established its first Girls Who Code club in the spring of 2019. Our Girls Who club partnership school is Shawnee Heights Middle School. Facilitators for the club are BCBSKS female employees from our IT&S division.

Girls Who Code is an organization on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does. The work focuses not only on gender diversity but also on young women who are historically underrepresented in computer science fields. The curriculum is designed for students with a wide range of computer science experience.

As a central part of the club experience, girls work with one another on an impact project, where they use computer science to solve a problem relevant to their club and community.
