Project Topeka

Each February, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas employees support Project Topeka Community Food Drive through monetary and canned good donations.

Project Topeka Community Food Drive is an all-volunteer organization and concentrates its efforts on one major food drive during the month of February. One hundred percent of donations are used to feed hungry children, adults and the elderly in Topeka and Shawnee County.

In 2020, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas employees donated the equivalent of 41,314 meals to the hungry in Topeka and Shawnee County. Donations and fundraising activities collected $27,515.86. Employees also donated 40 pounds of food to Project Topeka. The company used Project Topeka’s formula of $1 equals one-and-a-half meals and one pound of food equals one meal to calculate the total number of meals donated.

Since 2005, BCBSKS employees have donated $253,377 to purchase food for Topeka's neediest citizens.
