What connection and belonging mean to us

Connection

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas believes connection is the authentic, and intentional, mutual bond formed between individuals, groups or businesses — rooted in trust, respect, empathy, and both shared and diverse experiences.

Belonging

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas believes belonging is the feeling of security and support when an employee is accepted, included and valued for their unique attributes, while fostering a strong sense of identity within BCBSKS.

From our director

Quote from Lonnie Walker Jr.

Connection and belonging is being woven into the fabric of our culture more and more each day. We understand the importance of connection and belonging, because creating an inclusive environment is the right thing to do – ensuring all of our employees feel seen, heard and that they belong. This sense of connection and belonging translates to happier, more engaged employees who provide even better service to our members.

Employee resource groups

Employee resource groups (ERGs) at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) harness the talents and productivity of our employees, provide opportunities for professional growth and foster an inclusive organizational culture. ERGs are employee-led and formed around common demographics, characteristics or shared interests. They are open to all employees.

There are currently four ERGs: Black Alliance Network, Women's Alliance Network, Abilities Alliance Network and Pride Alliance Network.

Join our BCBSKS team and help us establish new ERGs to support more communities.

Blue Table Talk

Blue Table Talk is a forum where a diverse group of employees with common backgrounds and experiences engage in conversation about a wide range of belonging-related topics to foster understanding and promote dialogue.

The blue table serves as a safe space for employees to share personal stories, perspectives and insights, creating an environment that encourages empathy and mutual understanding.

Through Blue Table Talk, the Department of Connection and Belonging aims to empower individuals, celebrate diversity and inspire positive change within the organization.
