Unsolicited Electronic Claim Attachment Functionality (X12 275)

Beginning May 19, 2025, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) will be accepting unsolicited electronic claim attachments in the X12 275 format. We’re excited to roll out this new function that will help streamline your claim submission process.

What you need to know
Both the 5010 and 6020 versions of the transaction will be accepted. Corresponding companion guides for both can be found at User Documentation | ASK-EDI. This new function is not available to Medicare Advantage business or providers who submit claims via PC-Ace.

Make sure you’re ready
Check with your EDI department or EHR vendor to ensure they are able to support unsolicited attachments using the X12 275 transaction.

  • What version of X12 275 do they support?
  • Are attachments included in your current contractual agreement?
    • Is there an additional fee for attachments?
    • Is any additional configuration needed in support of attachments and if so, what lead time is required?
  • If your vendor is unable to support electronic claim attachments, you can still send in your supporting documents by mail as you do today.
