What DEI means to us

Diversity

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas believes diversity is a range of human differences including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, gender, age, physical and mental abilities, religion, political beliefs, veteran status and individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community. We value and encourage all employees, suppliers and communities we serve to respect and appreciate what makes people different.

Equity

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas believes equity is recognizing that all employees, suppliers and communities have unique needs. We acknowledge those needs and strive to allocate the appropriate resources and provide opportunities for all to be successful.

Inclusion

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas believes inclusion is intentionally involving all employees, engaging diverse suppliers, and supporting diverse individuals and organizations in the communities we serve. We strive to create a space where people learn behaviors that make others feel like they belong and are welcome.

From our employees

How you approach and implement DEI has a direct impact on how it resonates with employees. It's the difference between building a house and creating a home. Done right, DEI feels like home – and here at Blue Cross, I feel like I found my home.

Anushka Amin
HR Analyst, Projects & Programs
I think that the DEI efforts have improved our collaboration with our teammates, and especially those with diverse backgrounds because it gives them a platform to share their experiences. DEI deepens our knowledge with our colleagues and helps us be able to share information about ourselves in a safe authentic space with our colleagues. It makes the teamwork even more special.

From our director

Quote from Lonnie Walker Jr.

DEI is being woven into the fabric of our culture more and more each day. We understand the importance of DEI, because it's the right thing to do, ensuring all of our employees feel seen, heard, and that they belong. This sense of belonging translates to happier, more engaged employees who provide even better service to our members.
