Cost Relief Update

Last year Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) reached out to let you know how much we appreciate everything you have done to ensure our members receive quality and safe healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic and its lasting effects. Beginning Sept. 1, 2022, we provided a cost relief adjustment in reimbursement (MAPs). The adjustment was set to be in place for a 12-month period for contracting providers and is set to expire August 31, 2023.

We know many industries are still struggling with staffing shortages and supply chain issues, and we know yours is no different. That’s why we want to continue to do something to help. Effective Sept 1, 2023, BCBSKS will be providing a 0.7% cost relief adjustment in MAPs. This adjustment will also be set in place for a 12-month period for contracting providers. It applies to all professional services except clinical lab, ambulance, pharmacies and pharmaceuticals. This relief is meant to help ease a portion of the effects you have been feeling from the recent pricing hikes across our country.

You recently received your Annual CAP Report to include 2024 changes in policy memos, reimbursement and quality-based reimbursement payment (QBRP). The 0.7% cost relief will be in addition to any specific reimbursement changes planned for 2024.

We value you as a contracting provider and appreciate the care you provide to our members. We look forward to your continued network participation as we work to best serve our neighbors, family, and friends across Kansas.
