To strengthen its role in promoting the good health of Kansans, the state’s largest health insurer incorporated the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation with a $2 million gift in July 2005. Through its giving, the foundation focuses on key health issues that can impact the lives of many Kansans.
The foundation, which is required by law to distribute at least 5 percent of its assets annually, seeks to fund programs and activities that are at their core health-related. The foundation will fund efforts/ programs that promote health improvement, health care access, health education, healthy behaviors and prevention initiatives. The foundation also would consider funding direct health services for the uninsured in the Plan service area.
Funding decisions will be made by the foundation’s five-member board of directors and/or the foundation's COO, acting upon recommendations made by a committee of BCBSlKS employees with expertise in community giving and health-related activities.
