Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation logo

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, the state's largest health insurer, incorporated the Foundation in July 2005 as a way to further deepen its commitment to helping all Kansans lead healthier lives. An initial gift of $2 million was made in 2005 and the corpus has grown to approximately $14 million. The Foundation is required by law to distribute at least 5 percent of its assets each year.

Funding decisions are made by the Foundation’s five-member board of directors and/or the Foundation's chief operating officer, acting upon recommendations made by a committee of Blue Cross employees.

The Foundation seeks opportunities to fund programs and activities that promote health improvement, community health access and/or health education, healthy behaviors, prevention initiatives and direct health services to the uninsured.
